Timeline Dates for Women in the Military Officially

Sadly the history of women in the military is not taught in schools and colleges - women's studies programs ignore the "military-minded" woman - even though many of the battles in antiquity were led by women warriors. A few misconceptions are - either that we have always had women in service - or that they just appeared recently. For your edification here's the official dateline on U.S. military women. Until the 20th Century there was nothing official about women in uniform...they were not recognized until 1901.
