(1)
Ogre...I
love your voice(s). I've only heard a few tracks off of Welt... (it's becoming
impossible for those of us who don't own credit cards to get, all local stores
sold the one or two copies they had immediately)...but from what little i've
heard, your tone has changed quite a bit. I saw a review somewhere that said
something to the effect of "tone-deaf as ever" but i beg to disagree.
But back to the main question--how long did it take you to "hone your
tone", so-to-speak? How hard was it for you? I know that certain vocal
styles (i.e. growling, screaming, etc...) can strain and even permanently
damage vocal chords. On Welt, you're carrying a tune, and even sounding
classically trained at moments. Yet it's still unmistakenly Ogre. How'd you do
it??? By the way, have you ever thought that some mainstream pseudo-industrial
acts became popular because their vocals were less abrasive and more palapable
to the masses than SP?
(2) it is obvious to me, as a person who has through your music held your hand and crossed the street, that you have gone through a lot of ordeals in your life. so, my question is this... what do you feel are some of the most important re-accurring themes, messages, lessons, etc. that life tries to teach you? do you feel these lessons are THAT different for everyone? it uccurs to me sometimes that humanity is a bullet and life energy is like the powder sending us off.... do you feel there is a main evolutionary goal that life in general is trying to promote?
(3) I'm sure there are a lot of bands/artists you have been influenced by and/or have a great deal of respect for. If you could choose one band or artist to perform with (alive or deceased) on one night and one night only who would it be and why?
(4) With the release of your new album "Welt", what would you like to say to Skinny Puppy fans who deam this album a disappointment? I've read reviews from various sites that say the new album is "too mainstream" and very much different from the material you have released in the past.
(5) Every musician must stop at one time or another, usually because of age. What types of things would you like to accomplish once you stop making music? Politics maybe?
(6) The world of music has never been bigger than it is now. It seems as if most of the material released by artists now-a-days has been done before, its very hard to find original material these days. What type of music do you think will blow everybody's mind and be the next "big thing"? Can the music business only go downhill from here or do you think their is plenty of original material surfacing? If so, what material?
(7) The scene in general has changed dramatically since the 80's when you began to make music; artistically, politically, socially, etc. What events in your life, be it personal events that affected only you, or major happenings in the world, or music scene in general helped to mold and create the artist that you are today? I realize it must be difficult in this day and age to retain genuity as a musician in a scene flooded with boy bands and limp bizkits. Has this new "trend" in the pop culture affected your work as a musician?
(8) How would you describe your view on your sozial life and carreer, what philosophical approach do you have on these things and do they differ?
(9) Who or what influenced your view most? If you had to write a book your views, how would you name it?
(10) Do you think that you have much influence on your enviroment?
(11) Do you think that it has much to do with Skinny Puppy or is it something that you control?
(12) Are you considering manipulation by others?
(13) What makes a person interresting in your opinion?
(14) What is the thing you enjoy most when you meet strangers?
(15) What is the coolest thing that motivates/inspires you and gets you out of bed early that you expirienced lately?
(16) Tell me about you and religion?
What I mean is, everyone has a story about their spiritual choice, and I'm very
interested to know about the morphology and history of yours.
Were you born into Christianity or any religion? When did your convictions
begin to change, and was there something to precipitate the change? Where are
you spiritually now? And... What's the connection with you and Proccess
thought?
(17) I'm interested to know if you have ever considered taking a more 'folk/accoustic' musical approach, for example your cover of Scarecrow on Rx?
(18) Are you annoyed or flattered by various - now mainstream - artists taking ideas which you created and becoming rich and famous through using them (Stiltman comes to mind), or are you happy having a stong cult following of dedicated fans rather than a pile gold which you can sleep on every night, and millions of mall rats with Puppy T-shirts and a copy of 1 album.
(19) Alot of your Music has gone unreleased over the years (Mutual Mortality and your soundscapes come to mind...), but I'm sure there's also loads of Puppy stuff which has never seen the light of day - are there any plans to perhaps release any of these tracks (or videos... there was once talk of a Too Dark Park and Lat Rites video) perhaps as limited eddition internet only releases - similar to what the Legendary Pink Dots often do
(20) i wanted to ask you about your writing. do you actually write down a lot of poetry, or do you keep it all in your head, waiting for the right music to adapt it to? your lyrics are fascinating - i have to wonder what kind of approach you take to it all. i understand that you were a great deal more involved with the songwriting process of Welt than with Skinny Puppy - did you write the words with melodies and choruses in mind, or did the ohGr music itself happen first? would you ever consider publishing a booklet or book/volume/whatever of your poetry, assuming that there is a substantial amount of your writings that have never been adapted to or written for specific pieces of music?
(21) Most, if not all of the projects you have been involved in seem to reflect a very supernatural themeology, Skinny Puppy being the most evident. I'm just very curious on where you stand in regards to the existance or nonexistance of the supernatural. Are you completely atheistic? Do you find any truth in such things as ghosts, demons, psychic ability, earth energies, occult powers, angels, ESP, god, out-of-body-experiences, the existance of pure evil, etc?
(22) Here is the setup for my question:
the architect Louis Sullivan is famous for the maxim "form follows
function." In a larger sense, this might be true of all serious and
accomplished art, music being no exception. The methods used in making music,
as well as the way it finally sounds, tend to express the purposes behind its creation,
whether or not this process is consciously understood by the musician. In
short, the philosophy embodied within the artist comes through in some form in
the art.
Q: How do you think that your music expresses the philosophy embodied in both
your unconscious self and the way you consciously think about yourself and the
world, not only in the more obvious content of lyrics, but also your musical
methodology, and musical structure - and ultimately "your sound"? And
in this context, how does the work you are doing today compare with the work
you have done in the past?
(23) It is part of a running joke we( my friends) have of you, in the time your not recording, you are sitting on a couch and eating doritos and smoking pot. Is this true?
(24) Current label obligations aside,
is there a reasonable chance that future "solo" releases be
distributed through SubCon?
0r would that be a 'disaster waiting to happen'?
(25) What is the influence in your
paintings?
I imagine you as one who might like Michael Parkes.
Have you tried your hand at sculpting?
(26) Given your stance on things such as drug laws, animal testing, human and animal rights, and most other things, I was wondering. Why did you move to the US? Canada (and most of Europe for that matter) seems to be a fair bit more sympathetic towards lifestyles which break the norm, whereas the United States is notoriously against those who dont conform to a certain standard. The american population, as a general rule, contribute regularly to the previously mentioned problems much more than any other group of people in the world. I'm certain you must have a good reason, considering the pain one goes through to be allowed to work/live there, and I'm just wondering what your motivations are.
(27) Q1: How do those who only know the
"offstage" Kevin Ogilvie react towards your career and whole Nivek
Ogre/Skinny Puppy/OhGr persona? Has this ever lead to any problems or would you
consider your home and personal life very much in tune with your career?
Q2: Did you always dream about being a singer for an electronic industrial
band, or was there ever something else that you thought that for sure you would
be doing in life?
(28) What was the absolute worst episode you ever had with a fan? (not counting that chick that stole the vivisect doggy incident)
(29) q: What ever happened to your
involvement with Genesis P. Orridge? Are there any future collaborations
planned?
q: The WELT album has quite a pop edge, moreso than anything I've heard of your
work. Do you feel the mainstream fascination with pop music has rubbed off on
your music? What is your opinion on pop music in general?
(30) if you could have conversation with any three people ever in history, who would they be and why?
(31) Which artists, past or present, would you like/have liked to have worked with? A Bryon Gyson sound cut-up of Earthworm/Salvador Dali -directed oHgr video spring quickly to mind.
(32) With the failed U.S./North American war on drugs acting on a direct attack on our civil liberties, what framework would you consider to legalize personal use? How would Holland's approach with its cultural homogeny differ from the multi-class/culture/racial population of America? Would God, guts and guns *plus* chronic, crack and smack create a lethal mix for our society?
(33) How has the internet/mp3 revolution effected your views on artistic property, audio sampling and music distribution? Do you feel violated or honored that you are being mass-distributed on Napster? Is the only solution to digital piracy is the resurgence of vinyl?
(34) Is there such thing as "industrial" music anymore? Should electronic music be considered avant garde or nostalgia?
(35) Would you ever score a film? One can see you providing the music for David Croneberg's latest, or an adaption of a Philip K. Dick or J.G.Ballard novel.
(36) How the hell did that guy on Ebay get access to the contents of your storage lock-up last year?
(37) QUESTION: How would you feel if someone obtained the rites to the original WELT? Would you want them to release it as an alternate version, give it to the bootleggers, or just hand it over to you so you could lock it up for good?
(38) Last Rights.
The show involved you being tortured by your own guilt and wearing masks for
certain songs.
A Tree was part of the stage props.
The tree was originally called "The Tree of No Cares"
The tree trunk was made up of hundreds of twisted, moaning faces and was
scrawled with words like "Sex", "Greed", "Self
Dissect", "Vermin", and "Survive".
The masks included a gas mask, a monster with its tongue hanging out, and a
screaming human head cut in half just below the eyes.
You continued to turn to a Videodrome, inspired virtual reality / drug machine
through which you entered some other "dimension".
The machine continued to destroy you, eventually splitting you into two
personalities, evident by a "second Ogre" growing out of your back.
Finally you aquire a "guilt suit" and become your own monster.
The "Guiltman" monster suit was complete with stitches, needles,
chains, words such as "Forgive Me" carved into the flesh, a gaping
orifice in the belly with serpentine tongue hanging out, and IV tubes sticking
out of it.
This Guilt theme is prominent in much of the album, and obviously live show.
---------------------------------------------
guilt (g > lt)
n.
The fact of being responsible for the commission of an offense.
Law. Culpability for a crime or lesser breach of regulations that carries a
legal penalty.
Remorseful awareness of having done something wrong.
Self-reproach for supposed inadequacy or wrongdoing.
Guilty conduct; sin.
-------------------------------------------
QUESTION: What is the guilt related to in the sense of inspiration, creation
and details behind lyrics in Last Rights ?
Very personal question i know, but it would of course, be interesting to know -
as LR is easily the most emotional album i have ever heard.
(39) If you would be president of the world what would you do first???
(40) q: why didn't you go to dwayne's funeral? ive heard that it was because of the problems with cevin and rave at the time. dont you think that was selfish on your part? do you regret not going. im assuming you have been to his grave since though. have you? also have you ever intentionally written a song about the loss you felt about dwayne? is it on any of your albums or have you not wrote such a song?
(41) Q1: say you're on this Summer Tour
and you're done all the canned setlist & the crowd is still going WILD!
Would you do another Encore & what would you play?
Q2: If you answered Yes, would it be Noreen or an SP tune?
(42) have you ever heard a piece of music/noise/natural sound or seen a movie/image/natural scene-occurence that made you feel as if everything you had ever created was worthless?
(43) If you had the ability to go back in time ,and take any bands with you to play in the original Woodstock, Who would you take, and (in your opinion) what kind of social or political changes would you think would transpire?
(44) how has your family responded to you being a musician, vocalist, artist etc.. and if you wouldn't have been involved in music, what do you think you would have done instead??
(45) when you started writing lyrics for skinny puppy, starting with k-9, did you have a set direction that you wanted them to eventually go? Was it your intention from the beginning to open people's eyes about animal rights, and when the words themselves didn't work too well, did you change the stage show to reflect them?
(46) Is there a song - Skinny Puppy, ohGr, or otherwise - that you think expresses you best?? I know that as moods change and time passes, no single song could possibly always reflect who you are, or rather, who you conceive yourself to be, or maybe what you want others to see of you...but is there any piece of music that you think captures 'Kevin Ogilvie' really effectively??
(47) how did you become acquainted with Roman Dirge?? Do you read his comics, or any comics?? If you do, what are a few of your favorites??
(48) if you could (without giving too
much away about the next ohgr), explain to us the explicit differences between
the 3 OHGR albums
1) original WELT (american records)
2) OHGR/ welt
3) OHGR/untitled
you've talked before about what trax are new & which are old, but if you
could, can you break it down for me? for instance....
-artistic concept for the original welt, did american do any art or photos or
graphics?
-instrumental differences?
-vocal performance differences?
-some songs were not redone for WELT will the balance of the original songs be
on the next ohgr?
-how much of the next ohgr will be new material?
-were smothered hope and borderline done during the OHGR/welt re-recording
sessions, or before, or after?
-did you record both ohgr albums for spitfire during the same period? or is
there work still to be done on the next one?
(49) what does Second Tooth mean?
(50) From listening to your work for a long time now, it seems that you put a lot of personal beliefs and emotional energy into your music. I was wondering what you imagine people are doing when they listen to your albums? Also, how do you feel when you realize that most of the time it is listened to as background while the listener does some mundane task?
(51) Ogre, in the fabrication of your lyrics, do you find yourself more often drawing from the tangible human experience (aka: the condition of the world we live in and how you discern such matters on an active level), or do you dig deep into your subconscious ideas/concerns to formulate a song? if the latter is the case, how do you go about accomplishing this and have you ever encountered a segment of your psyche that you might of been eternally oblivious of, if not for your chosen profession (expression through written word)?
(52) You refered to
painting during both chats, and it seems to me that it must be a very good,
enjoyable activity for you. I am wondering if you would tell us a bit about the
paintings that you have created and let us know if this form of creativity will
be available for your fans to observe
and appriciate?
(53) In your opinion,
what do you see as the future of music's role in modifying or creating
social/political/ethical consciousness considering the currently co-opted and
homogenized state of most music and culture? (Fhew!) The negative effects of
this are fairly clear, I'm interested in what form you might foresee positive
change being instigated. I see this as an integral part of your work, two examples
being the constant message, if sometimes as subtext, of thinking for one's self
and maintaining personal integrity in the face of the leering ignorant majority
and also raising the public's awareness of the vivisection issue. To clarify,
it seems that it's no longer possible for music to create, if not a social
revolution, then a shift in mass culture and even a certain "WAKE THE FUCK
UP!" effect on some people and groups as somewhat seen at the beginning of
the "beat/hippy/punk/industrial" movements (whatever those were ;) ).
As
opposed to "buy some more shiny clothing and you will find enlightenment
through blind acceptance" I ask this also because
"underground"/"alternative" music (terms that are loosing
their significance) is becoming more the domain of mainstream interests and the
line is becoming blurred between sub-culture/pop-culture and a
discerning/force-fed audience. So there. Ever get the feeling you've helped
foster a bunch of little fucked up monsters?
(54) the new Ohgr
album definitely has a lot more "pop"-like elements than we
are used to hearing from your projects.
Between the metal/rock drums on Water, Kettle, and Minus and the very
poppy progressions in many of the tracks the overall feel I get off the album
is that of a really demented rock outing with a couple techno-ey tracks
interspersed. was this an intentional decision to make and album in this style
or was it just what creatively came about? also is this an experiment for just
this project or is this style pervasive in your current musical endeavors?
(55) how do you find that living in the united states differs from living in canada?
(56) as the original
WELT cd was planned to be released a few years ago, have
your motives for creating the album and your intent on the aspects and sound
of the album (and tracks) changed through out this time period, or have
they remained generally the same?
(57) I couldn't really think up one, so just for shits and giggles,I know rockstars do crazy amounts of drugs,,,supposedly,,,, so I was just wandering how much money do you think you and al jourgensen have pumped into your veins?perhaps on the mind tour or so, this is a no bullshit/just curious can't think of anything that hasn't been answered question.
(58) Comparing your
work with Ohgr, RX, KMFDM to Skinny Puppy your new sound is lighter, more
upbeat and full of energy. Your lyrics on Puppy where always
darker and filled with emotion. Was this dark tone influenced by Key or
Goettel or was it a more sinister influence of drug use?
(59) Orge, if you were to write a book(be it fiction or non) what would the title be and the subject matter consist of?
(60) if there was one moment in your life, or something that happened that you feel would best describe you as a person or your life, what would it be?
(61) I want to know if you or the band Skinny Puppy belong to the Organization who helped bring MIDI for musicians and engineers in the 80's. Are you planning on helping to add anything in the next years to it, possibly come up with something to put into the other two pins?
(62) Are you planning on ever working with Wilhelm Schroeder or Bill Leeb again?
(63) .. I wanted to know and i am pretty sure everyone else out their wants to know that are you happpy the way the album came out? Anything differently you would of done to it.. ..
(64) would you ever in the future work on something with tim skold?
(65) My question is, have you conquered your problem with heroin use, and/or drug use altogether? What is your current stance on drugs, as to legalization issues?
(66) Are you aware that your music has had and still has this effect on people and is this something that you wanted to achieve with your music and performances? Of course there are limits to the sanity of the influence of music. We've all heard about Jeffrey Dahmer who supposedly was a great fan of Skinny Puppy
(67) Don't you ever get the feeling that you just want to (to put it in Thom Yorke's words: ) "Take the money and run"?
(68) You say you try to describe these images that tell truth in an abstract way. Q: Aren't you afraid that by abstracting these images, they'll become too personalised and no-one will understand them anymore? You might be perfectly aware of what you're saying, but will others as well?
(69) What inspired your stream of conscious style of writting and word play?
(70) in Skinny Puppy,
were there songs that were more Dwayne's idea and other
songs that were more cEvin's idea? were there certain tracks that were
"soooo Dwayne" and others that were "sooooo cEv"? i know
they worked 50/50
on all the tracks since Mind, but i want to know what songs were more cEv
adding to a Dwayne idea or Dwayne adding to cEv idea. could you name a
couple tracks that were typical dwayne or cevin? also, what tracks were
completely 50/50 between them?
(71) at the end of the
doomsday show, which i couldn't attend =..< the rain's poured down and
thunder came from above...now i read that cEvin (who rules so much
like you [heehee])said it was as if dwayne's spirit was right there in the
skies of dresden...i would like to know is if you believe it was really sum
amazing act of the dwayne god, crying for your's and cEv's performance, making
that night so beautiful and full of glory... also, since the death of dwayne,
have you ever dreamed of him?
(72) You have signed some of the limited edition CD's with phrases like 'Bias Itch' and 'Spit Lieb' and 'Dig Deep'....What do these things mean???????
(73) Time - mysterious characteristic of world or flow of our consciousness or merciless tyrant, devouring existing or++?
(74) Being such i have
developed an emotional connection with you through your art, though i don't
know you personally. in my opinion it is this connection that makes you a
successful artist. saying that, i would ask; what is your view of the
connection you share with your audience from an emotional standpoint and
can you account for the creative synergy resulting from your arts effect on
your audience(especially musicians), knowing that in some way you touch and
inspire every person who hears or sees your art?
(75) Will printed lyrics to "Last Rights" and "Mind: the Perpetual Intercourse" ever be made available??....perhaps ALL of your lyrics, printed as a book (similar to the Edward Ka-spel book((Love and Loud colors)) that is coming out soon.)???
(76) "When I say
the word 'Pore', what images spring forward in your mind that
are not in any way music related?"
(77) In a past interview you mentioned the possibility of a Guilt Man Resin model...any chances of that still happening???
(78) My question to
you is how does it feel to go out on stage everynight? More
specifically what is going on through your mind and what role does the audience
play in your performance. What is the overall effect you would like your
audience to feel after seeing Ohgr in all it's glory?
(79) I always assumed that you were a vegetarian, am I correct?
(80) There are some people that believe that a vocalist is not a true musician. Some believe that vocals are not an important part of the music, that the vocals are not even necessary and in some cases get in the way of the 'music'. What do you think of that attitude?
(81) What type of
music do you believe is more harmful to children ...Top
40 or industrial?
By children I guess I mean from like 1 year old to , oh I dunno, lets say
10. It is hard to really estimate when 'understanding' of the medium
takes place.
To rephrase the question:
What type of music would you expose your children to and would you try to
influence or control their musical preferences? Explain why.
(82) I was wondering
what you think of the current political state, and
issues such as gun control, abortion, capital punishment(death sentences), and
hate crime legislation? And do you, as a public figure, think that it is
acceptable for a actor, musician, athlete, etc...to use their platform to
influence the public to their particular opinions/beliefs/political
preference...etc? Explain.
(83) In the late 80's
to early-mid 90's there was a trend in 'industrial'
music to load (and in some cases overload) songs with samples. Now
samples are hardly used atall (with a few exceptions). I am mostly
referring to dialogue and sound samples, not sampling other musicians
work.
What are your thoughts/opinions on sampling?
To go along with this question, who picked the samples that were used
in Skinny Puppy songs and were there any particular reasons a certain
sample was used?
(84) dup question, pass on this one. -scott
(85) What kind of storyline are
you planning for the Ohgr tour, if any?
Will it be similar in performance to a Skinny Puppy show (Creative, artistic,
backing films, props, a "storyline" that relates to the songs, etc.)?
Do you
plan to integrate some songs from your previous work into these performances,
such as Skinny Puppy or Rxitalin material, and if so will these be
"updated"
versions of the songs?
(86) On 'Testure' you
protested against animal testing. What are your views on
the current ongoing genetic experiments here in the United Kingdom, which
have resulted in such new genetic species such as (nicknamed) Sharkey's
Glute-Whale, The Brown Yobble Otter, or Halliwell's Squirrel?
Is this taking science too far?
(87) What emotional roadblocks did you (internally) and you and cEvin have to work out before Doomsday could get to be more than a hazy idea, how did this show effect your relationship with cEvin (as in before and after?) and how will Doomsday effect future work, has Doomsday in any way effect OhGr?
(88) i read a couple
years ago that the title of the album welt, stood for "when
everyone learns the truth", is there any truth to this and what was the
reasoning behind using this title?
(89) Once you retire
from the frontline of music, or you are no longer around,
what is the one thing you, as a musician, would want for other to take
from your music and remember you by as well as live by.
(90) How do you think you'd handle the public pressure if one of your projects became an unexpected mainstream hit? I don't think the question of whether or not you would "sell out" has ever been debatable. To me, what makes gives the question importance is based on what you would choose to do with your persona if you pretty much had all the resources you could ask for, and the plastic-pop-culture would be waiting to see what you did next.
(91) What are your thoughts on this statement "Sometimes I think the fear of dying is really a fear that you're not living the life you want."
(92) Through your
years of creating and performing, is there a message or point
you are trying to convey that has been misinterpreted?
If so, what is it?
If not, what has made you successful in making that point?
(93) During the span of your career, you've spent time recording with several musical entities and had dealings with several different record labels. In your opinion, is it possible for a struggling young artist (or group) to expect financial success as well as maintain all aspects of their creative vibe?
(94) What are your opinions about the current "meat crisis"?Is it part of "nature's revenge" or man's fuck up or both?
(95) In the beginnings of Skinny Puppy it was just you and cEvin...what kinds of work did you do on this early material aside from the vocals?
(96) Are Kevin Ogilvie and Nivek Ogre the same? Or would you consider Ogre to be a character or persona within yourself that is exploited on stage, a part of you in which you display on stage, or is it all you, or just an act of theatrics. If possible to pinpoint, how many percent of Ogre is Kevin Ogilvie on stage, and vice versa off-stage.
(97) within the years
of industrial and the way it has now progressed into many different genre's..
do you think that there is any more originality to be found in
industrial.. or do you think it has now become non-existence..?
(98) ok this is the
one question Ive actually wondered about so here is goes
Do you ever get "fans" that get the wrong idea of what your
performances and
music is actually about. Someone may think your trying to portray an evil
animal torture and in actuallity its opposite, and how do you deal with
them, when and if you ever met a fan under that circumstance?
(99) If you could go back and say one thing to Dwayne, what would it be and why?
(100)
Would you ever consider collaborating with Trent Reznor
on a project? - it
seems that you guys would work well together
(101) if you were given the opportunity to define skinny puppy, historically speaking, what would your definition be?
(102) on the song, antagonism, what were you thinking about when you wrote the lyrics-it's a very powerful song indeed and what were you reflecting on besides dark matters of life and other stuff you twisted into it,,,
(103) Will Ogre be getting together w/ cEVIN again to do some NEW Skinny Puppy songs or not?
(104)
what can you say has been the most difficult thing
about being in the
music?
what can you say have been major influences on your live act...movies,
other musicians?????
(105) what do you feel was your most emotional writing period and why ? ( A specific time period, album song ???)
(106) Do you feel that the entirety of your recorded work (with everyone from Skinny Puppy to Ritalin to the ohGr material to work with Pigface and KMFDM) can justifiably present the progression of your personal life (at least emotionally) as a succession of associative events? If so, does the fact that a large majority of your life can be purchased at a retail outlet present itself as something you take pride in? Or does it, at times, seem a detriment, being that it might be perceived as an invasion of your emotional privacy. So, more/less what I am asking is, is if you have any regrets whatsoever regarding the lyrics, persona, or live presentation that you have presented us fans with over the years.
(107) So what exactly did happen with dwayne? Was it a suicide or an overdose?
(108) What effect did the death of D.R. Goettel have on the Skinny Puppy reunion? Would the reunion have occurred were he still around, or could it have happened sooner? How do you feel about the posthumous release of his music?
(109) I would also like to know how Ogre and Mark Walk worked together - did they trade Pro Tools files back and forth? How much of the actual instrumentation did Ogre play or program himself? How much production and treatment did Ogre perform on the tracks after they were recorded?
(110) Will Ogre ever release a music project done entirely by him (i.e. non-collaborative)? Does he have interest in doing something like that?
(111) Is love possible?
(112) What's your view of Canada; do you consider yourself a Canadian or just plain Ogre?
(113) What possessed you to do a cover of Madonna's "Borderline”?
(114)
if there was any skinny puppy lyrics that you could change or
rearrange/add things to/replace with a different writing, which song would it
be and what would you do differently about it?
(115) Did you orignally get into music to make a political statement, or was the political/protest side to your music just an outcome of your desire to make music?
(116) Do you think your music would be different (and in what way?), if you had formal music training when you were young?
(117) which bands do you credit with keeping "industrial" music alive since skinny puppy's last album and who would you say has been the most innovative and influential since the process
(118)
even if much of your music to date has given voice to
mostly negative or
critical thoughts or feelings, you must have some source of inspiration
beyond a simple need to "vent", i.e. you must be experiencing
something
positive as a result of your artistic endeavours, something that urges you
onward, drives you to keep taking the next step. simply put, "from where
do
you derive HOPE?"
(119)
What are your thoughts on spirituality and religion
(especially the
Processean Church), and how do they affect your thoughts on animal rights and
drug use, among other things?
(120) I have noticed that, until only recently, you seem to have been very reclusive. Before the release of Ritalin, you did some guest appearances with various bands, but it seemed as though you were trying to distance yourself from Skinny Puppy and Nivek Ogre. I read a story that during an autograph session with KMFDM, a fan brought a Too Dark Park poster to be signed, and you signed it "Nivek is dead". The line from Lusid, "got divorced with the way I was and tried to get away" seems to reinforce my theory. Glimpses of your former self can be heard on your new CD, and with the S/P show in Germany, and rumors of more in the future, my question to you is: What transpired to spark the apparent resurrection of Nivek Ogre and possibly Skinny Puppy?
(121) I have always wanted to know about the rumored animosity between Skinny Puppy and Al Jourgensen. I always thought he tried to steal your thunder, as well as the Butthole Surfers'. Was there an episode of anger involving you and Al, or for that matter, any of the Puppies and Al?
(122) Deep down inside, (you said difficult questions) do you ever feel any guilt for perhaps misleading friends or fans by your own actions, or words?
(123) Hi my question is about the part in PORE during the first ultra/ULTRA I hear you say something like, " when ever it fires - burnt out tired " what exactly are you saying and why keep that part at the level its at and is it only coming in from the right speaker only?
(124)
i was just wondering if you had four people past or
present that you could
sit down with and talk to, who would they be and why?
(125)
How influential are books on your lyrics, and more
specifically, is the
line 'So it goes' in the song 'Death' an allusion to Vonnegut's 'Slaughterhouse
5'?
(126) What do you attribute your issues with addiction to? Do you think it's biology/genetics or were you self-medicating due to depression/emotional pain?
(127)
Is there any possibility that on some level the music you make feeds
your
issues by keeping you trapped in that same dark perspective rather than
moving beyond it?
(128) "Could you think of any event from your childhood that you remember the most? Something which changed your outlook upon life or was just so funny or strange that you still can't forget it. "
(129)
Do you feel as if you've found any answers to lifes
mystery through your
experiences so far, any kind of positive meaning or belief system that makes
you get up every morning and follow your dreams(well not every morning)or do
you get more confused or have more and more questions about life as time
goes on?
I'm asking because it seems as if you've turned a huge corner in your life
and work this past few years like you've come to a huge realization, or did
you just get tired of the same old same old? I'm sure probably both and
more. Just wondering if the perceived change is through boredom/challenge or
through some kind of epiphany?
(130)
Does merely being alive at this stage motivate you , as
mortality seems
fairly random (ie:WS Burroughs lives to a ripe old age but Dwayne gets cut
short)because if half of what we've read about you is true, your body has
been through quite a bit.
(131)
On the subject of children...do you personally want or
plan to have
any? Why or why not? Society is rather split on this issue & I'd like to
know
your views.
(132)
your female fans have come to regard you as a sex symbol. Does this
subject flatter you or shatter you? I've searched every last website and
there's one thing I can never find, I must know, has the Ogre taken a wife?
(133)
If you had to pick one song from your vast library of
work that would
sum up your emotional state of mind at this point in time, what would it be
and why?
(134)
with the issues in skinny spanning from animal rights
and testing to inner
dementia of the human physichy, what are some of the issues that you wrote
about on the new ohGr album?
(135) As a fellow musician, I am curious as to what advice Ohgr would have to give regarding the drug scene, drug use, and all the people you meet being in a band, especially as a front man. Everyone seems to have something they want to do for you, everyone has a new idea for you to try, and everyone wants to be your friend. How does one distiguish between those who are genuine and those who would use you?
(136) What are some of the tricks and equipment you used to process your voice? (For specific tracks, maybe Morpheus Laughing, Bark, Choralone, Warlock, God's Gift (Maggot) (probably my favorite SP song) ...) Were the choices entirely yours, was it a partnership with Rave, or did he make most of the decisions?
(137) It always seemed to me that Last Rites betrayed a less collaborative working relationship between you and your bandmates. Unlike other Skinny Puppy albums, there doesn't seem to be an attempt to fit the music around the lyrics and vice versa. It has a disjointed feel. Was this actually a conscious aim of the album? Am I just projecting my own suspicion of the band's troubles at that time? Or did everyone just sort of contribute their share and split.
(138) Throughout the years you've hidden your face in promotional pictures from Skinny Puppy, whether by blurring it, hiding it behind a mask, or other means. On stage, your features are often obscured by makeup, masks, etc. It seems an unusual thing to do for the "frontman" of a band. Was this a conscious decision and could you explain why you did it?
(139)
i was wondering about track 6=pore? on the
vocals(the fast parts)
they seeem very articulate for being sooo fast... did you first say them
slowly and then speed them up by time stretching each section??????
(140) My question to ogre is "how significant are the tatoos you have...is there one which you value more than others and if so, are you able to say why...what is its "story"?
(141)
In the making of the "Welt" album, did you
anticipate taking a more liberal
approach to expressing your vocals than you had in the past because you felt
less stifled artistically (after meeting Mark Walk and going through the SP
break-up), or is the album more of a spontaneous "soundscape" that
evolved
out of toying and experimenting with analogue keyboards, real bass guitar
and music software?
(142) Well now it's been quite a few years since SP, and I was always very interested in your search and discovery of the meanings of things and the "truth". Has your search reached its denoumet, have you found the answers you've been searching for? If you have, do you have an inner peace and a satisfaction that will last? Or do you feel that this will be an ongoing journey - one who's only answers can be known on the other side of the grave?
(143) Is William S. Burroughs or perhaps Philip K. Dick had been literary inspirations in Ogres' lyrical writing style?
