Our Medical Unit is strongly supported by our company, The Department of the Gulf, Hardy's Brigade, various artillery units, and the 2nd Independent Cavalry. We are well known within the ranks of other re-enactors. We lean more towards the educational aspects and less towards performing. Our primary concern is towards the fellow re-enactors on the battlefield, which is providing them with the proper medical care as needed. When we set up a display at a living history event, demonstrations, or re-enactments, we cover all aspects of the duties and responsibilities of the Surgeon, Stewards, and Nurses. This is not just limited to the battlefield problems. Our Pharmaceutical display is quite extensive. Our unit does living history demonstrations, talks, and discussions for various organizations. We are able to present documented views and facts relative to the Medical Services provided by both sides during the conflict. We are knowledgeable in presenting the civilian issues in assisting the Medical Service during the conflict. We are a leader in educational programs and have presented programs for the St. Johns County School District, Clay County School District, University of Florida, Sons of Confederate Veterans camps in Deland, St. Augustine, Palatka, Middleburg, and Melbourne FL. We also have presented programs to the National Park Service, Brevard Community College, St. Johns River Community College, and the Orlando History Museum. Our unit coordinates the school programs at Horse Landing which draws approximately 3,000 students and New Symnra Beach, which draws another 2,000. We assist with the school priograms at Olustee Florida and Narcoosee Mills. |
