AMOS MCLEMORE, son of Martha Joiners and William McLemore, born December 3, 1829, in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, died September 2, 1903, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. At the opening of the Civil War he enlisted in the Confederate army under Colonel McClain, of the Thirty-seventh Missssippi. He entered into camp at Columbus, Miss., was ordered from there to Saltillo, from the latter place he marched to Iuka, where he was captured, and ordered to parole camp at Jackson. Next he went to Vicksburg, where he was again captured, paroled and finally exchanged. He was afterward at Polard, Fl., Rome, Ga, and Resaca, being with Johnston before Atlanta. He was compelled to enter the hospital at Macon, Ga, where he began working as a nurse after recovering his health, but was afterward with Hood on his Tennessee campaign, taking part in the battles of Franklin and Nashville. He owned and controlled one thousand acres of land northeast of Meridian, Miss., where he raised cotton, oats, potatoes, etc. He belonged to the Primitive Baptist Church. They are buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Lauderdale County, Mississippi.
